We measured serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) concentration in a cohort of women, aged 17-32 yr, from a general population sample. Serum 25OHD was measured in 467 white women enrolled in a dietary intervention study who had not received treatment for rheumatic or autoimmune diseases or calcium supplements in the previous 6 mo. Vitamin D status was categorized according to vitamin D intake and serum 25OHD concentrations as deficient (50 nmol/L). Body mass index was also measured.
